European Investment Bank Invited Hamburg
The European Investment Bank (EIB) invited Hamburg to showcase its ITS-Concept Urban Bus Equipment (ITS-CUBE) project at the European Local ENergy Assistance (ELENA) Roadshow held in Frankfurt.
During the roadshow, Dr. Bernd Schober from Hamburg's Landesbetrieb Straßen, Brücken und Gewässer (LSBG) presented the project, which will prepare the development of system architecture based on C-ITS and a migration strategy from Hamburg’s existing bus prioritisation system.
The EIB invited Hamburg to present due to the lighthouse quality of its work, using its ELENA grant to lay the foundations for a new mobility system making sustainable public transport faster, more convenient and more comfortable for its users.
Hamburg's innovative work was featured alongside presentations addressing various aspects of energy efficiency and sustainable development. These included Jan Kottmann from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action discussing the German government's strategies and decisions for increased climate protection in the building sector, Peter Daub from KfW outlining support for energy efficiency investments in buildings, and Lars Anwandter from the EIB presenting the bank's sustainable loan programme.

The programme aims to support cities and regions in achieving their goals to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2023, Hamburg received 1,946,250 EURO in ELENA funding from the EIB for the ITS-CUBE preparation programme.
